The defender became the face of Brazil's
disappointment following their 7-1 defeat to Germany but insists the
Selecao have moved on
David Luiz says Brazil have already recovered from the heartache of their 7-1 World Cup semi-final defeat to Germany. The Selecao were favourites to win a sixth world title, and their first on home soil, before suffering their worst ever defeat at the hands of Joachim Low’s side.
Luiz gave an emotional interview directly after that defeat but this week, as new coach Dunga prepares his charges for the Gillette Superclasico de las Americas with Argentina on Saturday, the Paris Saint-Germain defender said the team are now only looking ahead.
“Everything has been said and explained. The wounds have already healed,” Luiz told the press in Beijing.
“The new players are also aware of what happened and now we have to think about what's coming in the future, not what has already passed. If we dwell on too much on the past we will be unable to evolve.”
Atletico Mineiro striker Diego Tardelli is one of those new players and he echoed Luiz’s call to move on.
“It's part of the past. I personally try not to ask them about it, because we know how painful it was,” Tardelli said.
“This is a new team with two wins under the command of Dunga and we have to cherish the moment.
“Football will always give another chance to players who will be asked to erase what happened.”
