Champions League Central - Live Q&A

  • Champions League Central - Live Q&A

Goal's panel of European football experts get together for a live chat to discuss the major Champions League talking points.
It certainly helps. The club made a tribute video for Leo after he broke the Liga goals record and he was given a rousing reception at Camp Nou by the fans as he was launched into the air by his team-mates. That will make him value just what he has at Barca and as he said himself, if it were up to him, he would stay forever. If the team are performing and he is scoring goals, he is happy. It is only two games but his body language looks different already and perhaps he feels he has had a burden lifted after he sent a message to the club via the press last week. The goals are back and so is the smile - and that's a great sign for Barcelona.
  • Having hinted that he may leave Barcelona in the recent international break, Lionel Messi returned to hit back-to-back hat-tricks in his last two games and has broken two of the game's greatest goalscoring records. Can all of that smooth over his problems at the Catalan club?

It is clear that Messi wanted those two records and he looked hungry enough in the last two games, but it is too early to tell how hungry he is to repeat the success of the Guardiola era. Time will tell. After missing out on the major prizes last season and having won significantly less since the departure of Pep, both Messi and Barcelona have something of a point to prove now. So if Leo can lead the club to the top titles once again, that will represent real satisfaction. After a disappointing period on and off the pitch and the distraction of the World Cup now out of the way, he can concentrate fully on firing Barca back to the top.

  • Argentina legend Mario Kempes recently said Ronaldo has more hunger than Messi. After claiming those two records and winning it all at Barcelona in recent years, what is left for Leo to achieve at the Catalan club?
