Having
hinted that he may leave Barcelona in the recent international break,
Lionel Messi returned to hit back-to-back hat-tricks in his last two
games and has broken two of the game's greatest goalscoring records. Can
all of that smooth over his problems at the Catalan club?
It
is clear that Messi wanted those two records and he looked hungry
enough in the last two games, but it is too early to tell how hungry he
is to repeat the success of the Guardiola era. Time will tell.
After missing out on the major prizes last season and having won
significantly less since the departure of Pep, both Messi and Barcelona
have something of a point to prove now. So if Leo can lead the club to the top titles once again, that will represent real satisfaction.
After a disappointing period on and off the pitch and the distraction
of the World Cup now out of the way, he can concentrate fully on firing
Barca back to the top.
