The Argentina international suffered a ligament
injury against Everton a fortnight ago but could make a comeback in time
for the club's crucial January fixtures
The Argentina international limped off in tears during City’s victory over Everton earlier this month and has been ruled out for up to six weeks.
But Pellegrini is hopeful that the striker, who has scored 19 goals this season, can return for City’s crucial double-header against Arsenal and Chelsea in the closing weeks of January, whilst allaying initial fears that he could miss the club's Champions League clash with Barcelona on February 24.
"Sergio has a torn ligament and I think it will be long before that tie, probably in the first weeks of January, that he will play," Pellegrini told reporters.
City currently sit three points behind Chelsea in second place in the Premier League, but are 10 points ahead of sixth-placed Arsenal.
