Here are the most intriguing story of the winter window – from a Man United
perspective at least – will surround Kevin Strootman’s future. The
Dutchman is known to be a favoured player of boss Louis van Gaal and a
move to Old Trafford looks to be on the cards. With Michael Carrick
turning 34 at the end of the season, and Ander Herrera not yet the
finished article, United need polished quality in the middle and
Strootman would provide exactly that. We were recently told that the AS Roma star has ‘shaken hands’ on a switch.
It has been a turbulent few months for Man United. A raft of injuries throughout the squad has plagued the Red Devils early season, but a recent run of four wins in a row has seen them climb from mid-table to the top four, placing them within touching distance of Southampton and Man City.
For all of Louis van Gaal’s impact since being named United boss though, there remains a feeling among supporter that this is a side that is still very much a work in progress.
An eye-watering £150m summer recruitment programme illustrated that perfectly, but with the winter transfer window rapidly approaching, don’t be surprised to see further movement from the club.
