Remy hopeful of being fit to face Manchester United

Remy hopeful of being fit to face Manchester United

The striker hurt himself shortly before scoring the first goal against Maribor but, with Diego Costa still out, is keen to get another chance to impress against the Red Devils

Chelsea forward Loic Remy is hopeful that he can shake off a groin injury and ease Jose Mourinho's striking woes ahead of a crunch match against Manchester United on Sunday.

Mourinho insists that he will be without his top marksman, Diego Costa, who has missed his side's last two matches , while Remy aggravted a groin injury scoring his first Champions League goal for his new club in Tuesday's 6-0 win over Maribor.

The former QPR and Newcastle striker came off in the 13th minute and is awaiting the outcome of a scan but remains optimistic that he will be fit enough to play some part in the showdown at Old Trafford.

"We will see with the scan," Remy told reporters. "I really hope it is not too bad. Fortunately I stopped playing because I felt something. I don't think it is too bad but I felt something. My groin.

"Yes, it's frustrating of course because I had a chance to play because Costa is injured but I am not afraid. I don't think it is really bad. We will check and I really hope to play again this weekend.

"It is a huge game but every game is tough. Especially this one because it is a big game against a good opponent but I will try to recover as quickly as possible."

The Frenchman revealed that he had felt a problem before scoring the goal, confirming: "Beore that, it was a bit stiff, even my run and I didn't feel very comfortable.

"That's why I preferred to come off but for me I have to care about myself and, if I'm not feeling very good, it's better to leave for another player who is 100 per cent."
